Masters of our Destiny

Peaceful Place is a day centre in Basildon, Essex, which supports around 50 people with young onset dementia (YOD).  Members are diverse in age, background and needs. They have different dementias, at various stages, with diverse physical, cognitive and communication manifestations and co-morbidities.  Emphasising reablement and rehabilitation, Peaceful Place’s model focuses on strengths and enabling people to help themselves.  It is not a “care” service, but offers activities which are enjoyable, meaningful and health-promoting with the intention of maximising abilities, relearning lost skills and developing ways of coping with deficits. Person-centredness, social interaction and peer support are the cornerstones.

Sharing our talents

We come from all walks of life and each of us has a unique set of skills and expertise that we can bring to enrich the lives of our members.

If you would like to join us or know more about our vibrant, active community please call, email, use the 'let's chat' box in lower right-hand corner  or simply drop in for a cup of tea and a chat.

What to expect when you get here.

Expect to bake, cook, knit, sew, paint, sculpt, make jewellery, play chess, draughts, pool, basketball, play music, dancing, singing, gardening, go for walks in the beautiful Essex countryside but also...

Campaign for our center.

To educate the world that it is your life skills and interests that define you, not a diagnosis
