Ricci's story

Riccis_Portrait.jpg

I had a great career. I worked for a variety of great companies;  Riso UK printers for 25 years, Raines Dairy Foods in Basildon making Yoghurts, Lemons Groundwork Solutions as a forklift driver for five years and Fords Tractor plant as a packer. I was also a driver for Amazon, DHL and Lakeside. I really enjoyed working and then in 2016 at the age of of 58, I was diagnosed with Frontal Lobe dementia. I am now 62.

It all started when my partner noticed I was misplacing things, forgetting what I was doing and getting lost when I was driving. This was not me.

When I got diagnosed It was like being hit by a ton of bricks.

I lost my job as I could no longer drive and I was left wondering what I was going to do with the rest of my life.

I then thought, its a blow but I need to get on with it.

I learnt about Peaceful Place through my social worker.

My first day was amazing, everyone made me feel so welcome. Everyone was friendly and I liked the fact that they were exactly the same as me. I like the art room, the games we play, singing, dancing but mostly talking to the other members about our dementias and the support we give each other.

I take each day as it comes. I know there will be good days and bad days.

My advice to anyone out there if you have dementia join us at Peaceful Place where you will have fun, get good advice and all the help you need.
