Supported Living Service
At Peaceful Place we are very aware that the services we currently offer to people living with young onset dementia only satisfy part of the broader need. In particular, there is little accommodation in the region that is specifically designed for this group. As a result people are sometimes placed within facilities more suitable for older people where the unique needs of people living with young onset dementia may be overlooked and support can sometimes be focused on providing physical care rather than stimulating social, mental and physical skills. It is recognised that individuals can deteriorate more rapidly in an inappropriate environment than they would otherwise do so given the right support and stimulation.
Given the experience, skills and knowledge we have gained from working with people living with young onset dementia over the last fifteen years we are well placed to expand our services to meet this challenge.
In response to this Peaceful Place has acquired a site in a quiet residential part of Hockley where we are developing supported living accommodation for up to 10 people. When complete, three properties will lie around a central sensory garden providing a therapeutic backdrop for the residents and visitors alike.
The service will be focused on delivering high-quality support and accommodation. It will provide the following:
• Supported living in a safe, comfortable and homely purpose built environment.
• Accessible communal sensory garden.
• A care philosophy which promotes choice, social inclusion and maintaining family and community links.
• A high level of assistive technology to help maintain individual's safety alongside support to manage risk to enable independence.
• Close links with our existing day care provision.
• Access to stimulating and meaningful activities.
• Close links and signposting to local support networks
• Staff specifically trained to support people with young onset dementia.
Since the project began we have been successful in winning support form charitable trusts, companies and the wider community. However we are still need as much help and support from as many people as we can to raise the money needed to complete the project. We are determined to ensure our plan becomes a reality and helps people under 65 in South East Essex with dementia.
Our Supported Living Service is a community based project and we are
very keen to encourage local people to be involved. One very direct way
to do this, is to 'buy a brick'.
Bricks can be purchased for £10.00 and can be bought in the name of a loved one or a memento of a very special memory shared with someone. Certificates are issued and all purchases will be recognised when the Building Project is complete.
Groups of people including families, friends, colleagues and local business may wish to discuss purchasing a whole wall and having this dedicated or sponsored.
